When to trim back seedlings

Planted my seedlings 8 days ago today and they are really taking off. Some plants like carrots and lettuce have 4-5 plants sprouting. When do I trim it back to 1? How much longer can they stay in the little 1.5"X1.5" seed trays?

Read each seed packet. They usually have specific directions for each. You don't want them to intertwine their roots so much that you can't separate them.

The ones with multiple sprouts need to be separated, & the big ones need to be planted, but it depends on the root system.

What seeds did you plant besides carrots & lettuce?

Yeah the packets don't give any suggestions. They say plant indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost.. it's been 8 days and the cucumbers are huge already. I planted cukes (big plants in pic) tomatoes on each end, carrots, spinach and lettuce.

I would wait to "trim" them back if you mean choose some over the others, to survive. You may lose some to animals, insects, temp, water, etc.
