Re: What happened to the apples?

If you want to use a camera this year, bait the tree with a few store bought apples.Wash them up good so you get most of your scent off and slice a few to get the scent out there faster.

Re: What happened to the apples?

If there are bi-peds that live somewhere " down the road", and they know your routine movements, they know when you are going to be out, and for how long, so it is easy to come by and check if you are gone, load up their baskets and be gone well before you return.

They do make apple pickin tools on a long pole, with fingers that go around the fruit, and hold it, while the operator pulls the fruit, from the ground.

Empties the small padded basket that the fruit falls into, and goes for more.

They left you one, so that you could taste what you had stolen.

I would be calling the Sherriff, and filing a report, because if these people are doing it to you, they are probably doing it elsewhere.

And a camera, will give you some evidence later for prosecution, for trespassing, if nothing else.

Re: What happened to the apples?

Moose, deer, bear, raccoons, squirrels are all messy. I have come across many apple trees while deer hunting and there are always apples on the ground with bites taken out of them. Even bear don't eat them all. Although squirrels will stash some away for winter, not likely they could clear an entire tree. Besides, even the squirrels know those apples will not store well.

This was the work of the same unsub from last year. Why they didn't wait for them to be ripe is strange, maybe they hold better.

I have worked with the police on bad checks and one thing they emphasis is the benefit of knowing about multiple crimes. Talk to them.

Re: What happened to the apples?

Agree with Bud, animals tend to be messy; they will leave half-eaten ones on trees, drop some on the ground, bend over or break smaller branches, etc. A clean sweep leads me to suspect people.

Re: What happened to the apples?

Folks,

Surveillance of target location is established via 14mb laser detection device.
Bait strategically positioned in target.

Outer perimeter secured by Spc Meshach and Spc Abednego ("The labs").
Toe poppers not present in inner perimeter.
Earlier recon by The labs sighted and repelled apparent Squirrel scouts. (Perhaps even bagged one. Which I hope they don't bring to the house like the ground hog last week)

Debriefing/results at... whenever I get up on Sun.
At ease. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Re: What happened to the apples?

I mentioned earlier that it was puzzling that they would take the apples before they are ripe, well I have a thought, not a good one. I still think the problem walks on two legs but their motive wasn't baking apple pies, vandals. Might be a sick way of getting their enjoyment thinking about people being shocked to suddenly see all of the apples gone. And leaving one might not have been an oversight but a deliberate jab to say they aren't deer or whatever.

If your cameras and trapping routine get nothing it might be because they know what cameras and traps are. A hidden camera might be better.

Re: What happened to the apples?

Well, pics reveal nothing, except I'm old. No shots betw ~9pm when an apparent space alien triggered a shot, and mid-morning when I guess commander Spock, my mule, triggered one.

The bait was untouched, unlike the guy who poked a hole in his palm while putting the bait up.
I'll leave camera for a few days. But I suspect who/whatever it was knows there's nothing there. I guess Spock will get the apple.

Who all may you have mentioned to you were leaving?

A co-worker once had all the beef, nearly 300 lbs., stolen from his freezer while away. He said the thief may have overheard the WHOLE STORY, about the beef and when he would be away, a few days earlier while in the bar having a few beers.

Re: What happened to the apples?

I'll shorten my story. Good friend (a police officer) had a run in with a reckless driver, young teen girl one block away. Wanted her to slow it down A LOT. Well, guess that girl had friends and the harassment started targeting him, his wife, and his two kids, really bad stuff, dead animals, razor blades, and more. For over 6 months the local police could catch no one. Then they caught a teen with drugs and he agreed to name names for consideration. Turned out that there were 22 kids involved in the harassment.

Two years in a row it is either general harassment and they are doing the same to others or you are being targeted for some unknown reason.

The police and schools often have students they can talk to privately and perhaps what is going on is known by others. My concern would be the unknown factor of why and if the apples are covered by a camera what is their next target going to be?

If the next harvest isn't until Sept 2019, there is no rush to install a camera.

Re: What happened to the apples?

SS, post #15 "Last year they were ripe (Sept), this year just getting some red."
That's one of the reasons I think it was vandals, too early to have eatable apples.

Re: What happened to the apples?

It would be easier today compared to when we stole apples, we never had a guy up the street to phone when the home owners are coming home.
