slime flux/wet wood

My parent's house. Tall blue spruce, guess about 70 yrs old? Just noticed thin bark crack, sap flowing out and bark looks black under the sap. Searching why brought up wet wood disease.

I am wondering if people here researched about this better than me? Tried anything that worked?

It didn't help that there are 2 of them very close to each other and another tall tree that blocks out the sun.

It looks like all I can do is fertilize and hope the tree heals?

Re: slime flux/wet wood

Called a local college agri extension service who sent over links to the certified arborists. She said it's my job to sift over the names to see who is selling the expertise and who is selling maintenance/management services. In nj, and the tree cutting companies are now required to have an arborist on staff, but I'd be nuts to follow their recommendation to the letter.

Talked to a local gardening supply. Their advice was deep injection fertilizer (laughed at the spike idea). Makes sense.
