Ok paleontologists, what is this rock? Looks like it has a shell on it.

Re: Rocks

Found it in Elk River in TN when water was down earlier this week.

Was intrigued by the shape and the almost finger looking shell(?) stuck to it.
The shell looking thing seems almost fossilized to it.

Re: Rocks

No expert, but would say that the fossil indicates it's some type of
sedimentary rock.

There's basically just 2 types of rocks: sedimentary and metamorphic.

EDIT: Ooops, forgot about igneous rocks. Lava forms igneous rocks.

Re: Rocks

I vote for sedimentary as well, possibly limestone. The old building I used to work in had heavy limestone window sills that were full of small fossils.

Re: Rocks

That's the rock that once held the primordial "goo" where life developed on the planet. Most life developed around the center of that pocket-recess area, eventually evolving into regular centrist and democrat people, the outskirts were much scummier, where the alt-right, tea party and extremist constitutionalists hail from. The seashell imprint is where tacky bathroom decor evolved from.

Re: Rocks

The shell appears to be from a scallop.

Re: Rocks

Well this is partly in Limestone County Al, and there are lots of mollusc shells as well as extremist constitutional sedimentary block heads.

WRT tacky shell decor, see the Chantix french open commercial, which I cannot now find but it is pretty funny.

Did anyone see the post about a stopped up toilet that had a wall mounted shell fall in? And, did the retrieved shell not appear to have, umm, poo stains?

Anyway, thanks for help.
