Remove tree stump

Hello to all. To remove the old tree stump I tried this solution. I hope you find it useful.

Re: Remove tree stump

I'll pass. No sense risking buring the fence down, or more. I'd use a stump chipper or chainsaw.

Re: Remove tree stump

Nah not for me, too big a chance of burning other things up.

I would have set up my A frame and Chain Hoist right over the stump, tied a chain to the stump, and to the chain hoist, and pulled it out.

Re: Remove tree stump

I dig them out with a tractor and back-hoe.

I guess if live in a rural area where neighbors aren't going to complain about a smoldering fire for a few days burning is fine.

Re: Remove tree stump

Ayuh,.... I burnt out a 6' poplar stump last year, but there was nothin' Close to it, like in the picture,.....
I also found puttin' a fan nearby, helps keep the fire burnin' Hotter, to quicken the time frame,....

Patience isn't my strong suit but stumps seem to be an exception. I have
no issue if it takes 20 years for them to go naturally.

Re: Remove tree stump

Three years ago after paying a pro stump grinder to take down my 3- 16 in.diameter stumps in just twenty minutes, I changed my stump elimination program.

I had five more to get ground down later on, when I cut some trees down. So I used my chainsaw and just vertically "quartered sliced" the stumps down 12 inches below the ground and then crossed cut them level.

Yep, it was lots of work and breaks taken with iced tea by me. But I enjoyed paying myself $10.00 a minute and took my time doing the work. JMO

Re: Remove tree stump

Googling "planter in tree stump" brings up some nice options.

Re: Remove tree stump

If burning, to speed the process, a chiminea can be made by boring a couple of holes with a long auger bit. 1 hole vertical top center and the 2nd hole low and horizontal to the first hole. The longer it burns the larger the flame.

Re: Remove tree stump

I burned out a large stump last year using a propane torch from harbor freight. $40 worth of propane and that sucker came right out. I moved the torch gradually so it basically became a "fire saw".
