Mowing a lawn with poisonous mushrooms

Recently, with all the rain here, hundreds of small brown mushrooms popped up in the lawn around a dead tree stump in the garden. I researched them as best I could & they are either Galerina Marginata, a Calif. mushroom, http://www.californiamushrooms.us/photogallery.html or Psilocybe, the magic mushroom. (The previous residents were drug users, reportedly.) And strange people have entered the yard at night, at least 10X recently. The lawn was full of dog poop for 4 yrs. Both dead wood & excrement are the basis for growing the mushrooms, respectively.

Either one is poisonous as far as I'm concerned. The gardener had mowed them up with the grass, but I foolishly emptied the garden refuse bin onto the ground looking for something to show a mycologist. Now I need to dispose of a lethal poison that is blowing around in the hot, dry wind!!!

Apparently, the poison can be absorbed not only orally but thru the skin, or inhaled. Lovely.

I thought this is very interesting & a cautionary tale. All I can think to do is water it away, then dispose. I don't want that much lethal poison to go to the landfill. I know most of you deal with poisons of one kind or another everyday, but then we often have illnesses that can't be explained.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It's mushrooms, not anthrax. Bag the refuse back up and send it off to the landfill.

Wear gloves and a dust mask if it freaks you out.

And don't lick the lawnmower blade.

Especially while it is running.

I appreciate that you responded, but it is apparently the most lethal poison on earth. Same as the Death Cap, Amanita. More than Anthrax.

Well, it depends on the circumstances, actually :}

I'm fairly sure that Cal. has laws covering this ( they have environment laws for everything else), so I would consult the County Agriculture officer for any help.

Might even get a big vacuum to come out and clean it all up on the taxpayers dime.

I'd be more worried about the 10 times strangers have entered your yard at night than the mushrooms. If they are "magic mushrooms" how lethal could they be?

Yes, I don't like the look of security screen doors but there are two now. It's a good neighborhood, but I think their old friends are dropping by, or they are magic mushrooms & they knew it?

I was a sleepwalker as a child, so hallucinating doesn't appeal to me Plus you would never know what you'd do . . . I guess you didn't see the link about the man pulling his p*%#s off while on magic mushrooms? He almost bled to death. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3497412.html

The Professor of Plant Pathology got back to me, it is a risk, especially to children. You probably didn't read the SDS.
