Little Gem Magnolia trees

I planted 5 little gem magnolias 5 years ago and they have barely grown at all.
the soil in clay and there is possibly some sandstone in it. Any suggestions? I was thinking about transplanting them, but I'm worried they have been in the ground too long. please help.

You don't indicate where you are located, so general information is all we can give. http://www.monrovia.com/plant-catalo...hern-magnolia/ gives a little information as to what the tree likes and needs. Could be the lack of good water as the trees suck it up quite a bit. What nutrients have you given the tree? Tree spikes, etc.

We have had our tree since it was young (about 15 years) and it is only about 15' tall and a 10' spread. Healthy and pretty when it blooms.

You should be able to get one to one and a half feet per year from a southern magnolia. They are a very slow growing tree.

5 years....Egads ! OK, dig one up and see what gives. Did it hit sandstone.....or were they planted with the roots growing circular and not pulled apart ? Were they one gal or five gal trees? Where are you located ? Did you water too sparingly.....or so much the clay soil turned to muck and smothered/rotted the roots ? Dig one up.....and get back to us.
