keeping squirrels away from the fruit trees

Any suggestion to keep the squirrels away from the fruit trees?
Tried trapping and releasing them to a near by park, they keep coming.
too late for my apricot and asian pear.

Re: keeping squirrels away from the fruit trees

I hear you. A very small grid fence over the top and on all sides. 19 more traps. Or if allowed, a 1022 with a scope. Actually squirrel taste pretty good as I remember from my childhood.

Story. At a friend house on his porch having a coffee while looking at all of the birds frequenting his feeders. Commented that he seemed lucky not having the squirrels clean them out. He said, here comes one now and sure enough there was a red squirrel making his way through the trees. I didn't see any of the typical squirrel trickery I would expect if one were to be successful but I watched. When the squirrel got near the edge of the woods about 50' from the bird feeders it went up a tree and into a box. It quickly came out with a piece of bread and headed back to where it came from. He said all he has to do is be sure that box never goes empty and they leave the feeders alone. He gets free stale bread from one of the bakery outlets.

Sorry for going long.

A 177 caliber pellet rifle is nearly silent,

Have you tried those metal bands around the trunks to keep the vermin from climbing the trees?

I like that stale bread trick, if you can't beat em, distract em.

Distract them by acting like a nut? (Sorry, I couldn't resist . . . )
