Great Stuff except when it gets on Vinyl

Our remodeling contractors got Great Stuff Window and Door Insulating Foam Sealant on our white vinyl sliding door frame. According to Great Stuff's instructions, now that it has cured, the foam sealant will have to be removed mechanically.

Any advice for doing this with minimal damage to the vinyl?

I'm guessing "mechanically" means sanding.

Since the vinyl isn't that thick, start fine and finish even finer. No power tools as the vinyl probably wouldn't take any heat.

Vinyl doesn't much like to be sanded. As a first shot, I'd try some goof off. Ron

They make a solvent for great stuff but I assume that it would also attack the vinyl. Not sure what the chemical is but it is in the cleaner they sell for the foam guns.

You might test a spot with bleach to see if it has any affect.

Has the contractor made any offers, like replacing the door?

I'd try a stiff rag along with either detergent or a mild solvent like WD-40. A plastic putty knife might also help.

Any reason you can't get the contractor to clean up his mess?

Ron's suggestion of goof off shows up in this link as well.

Might also try Agent Orange the waterless hand cleaner.

It works for lots of stuff and has no harsh chemicals. Agree with those who suggest a stiff rag or even a pot scrubber as an applicator.
