A bit of a nightmare with mesh vs. paper in corners

I hired a "contractor" to do some work and he bailed out on the project. So, I hired a guy to come and finish the work and this included some repairs made to drywall installation with corner tape instead of mesh left from the previous guy. New guy applied mud (ceiling float) over the mesh instead and now I am having some issues with how to approach this.

So, my question is, would it be possible to spray down this area with water to get the Sheetrock moist, then remove the mesh, so I can apply corners tape to the area where the new drywall was installed? I should also say that this is for the ceiling mainly, and where it butts against the walls.

I thought about pulling it all out but at this point I think it's going to cause a mess for the float and I could be dragged into refloating this area. This could also cause the corner bead we installed to come out and have to be replaced as well.

Just looking for the best way to approach this by keeping the corners 90*, not having it fall out over time, and not having this area of the house looking bumpy as it will be exposed to light most the time.

Thanks.

Forget about 90* corner and finish filling, and taper it out.

Drywall corners are almost never 90 degrees.
Fill and taper will work.

Paper tape is always preferred for inside corners. I had to use the mesh tape once on a corner repair - hope I never have to again! As stated above it's rare for any corner in a house to be a perfect 90 and as long as they look nice, it's not like anyone is going to measure the corner to make sure it's perfectly square.

The only time you'll care about the not perfect 90 is when doing baseboard, crown molding, chair rail, etc. Otherwise it doesn't really matter. Even in those situations it's not a huge deal.
