New project - tool box
I am planning on making a new tool box for my timber framing tools. It will may a while, I am going to try to use primitive tools and start with a tree we cut a few years ago.
The wedge splits off a piece of oak, down to where a partial saw cut was made.
A dogwood wedge is inserted into the crack.
A mallet is made from a piece of oak. Here, a hatchet is used to start a split for the dogwood wedge.
Dogwood wedges were made from a couple of small trees recently cut while clearing for a garden. I will use them to split logs into rough boards that...
After sharpening both ends, the sections were cut in half.
These are the finished wedges. Dogwood is easy to work with an axe when it is green, once it has dried, it is very difficult to work.
