Yuk! Shingle Packaging Is Awful!

Augie, No overlay. Complete strip off. I wanted to see what was under there, and I thought it would look cleaner. I thought I had a leak up on the ridge/rake area. Turned out not to be a leak. Just a busted up 20" x 48" piece of sheathing from (we think) tree limb piece. Thats the only piece replaced. Don't buy replacement sheathing until you see what you need. I now have 2 sheets of CDX in the garage I didn't even use. I'm very happy though. I can see why roofers in general like GAF. Go's on quick, not a lot of stones to slip on. Not the prettiest roof, nor the most 3D high definition looking. Very demur, unassuming, and monotone in nature.

Now Elk on the other hand to my eye is the best looking. Was my first choice. But, I had to consider what was really most important long term. My roofer is very "at home" with GAF. Says never had a issue with it since the early 90"s.
ELK, on the other hand has just to many negative comments on the board and else ware. I just didn't want to risk it.

Actually, I have a friend who did use the prestige 50yr ELK. It did not come out the way he thought it would. He thinks it is a roofer issue. I'm not so sure.

I thought the exact same thing. I think Elk looks the best, and I didn't go with GAF because of how bland it was. I ended up going with OC. I think their higher warranty shingles look pretty good.

Were you able to take advantage of the 25% off sale at Lowes which they had recently?

My roof slope does not allow for the finest display. Still looks much nicer than 3 tab.

Whoops, sorry my ignorance shows. Thanks for setting me straight. I will not err in such fashion again.

Augie, earlier I referred to under layment replacement when I should have said roof sheathing. The only place I had under layment on my roof was at the eves.
