Would a nail on roof top cause problem?

Somebody put a nail (5/8 inch long) on my roof while he was installing TV cable. Would that cause water leak problem in the long term?

Maybe, probably not.

Put a dab of Vulkum on it for peace of mind.

If you put a single nail through asphalt shingles without any sealant (caulking, roof cement) this will certainly create a point of water infiltration.

Over time this single protrusion will expand and contract. Snow loads, wind driven rains, and other rainfall will eventually infiltrate your roof. While it may be a small area and possibly never make it to you home's living space - it will take in moisture.

Sorry for the bad news.
