Windows before roof??

Is this a big no-no or does it really matter?

cibula11 03-07-2007 01:17 PM

It's not a huge issue. It may be best to roof before and then do the windows to prevent any wayside shingles from damaging the new windows. But, houses are reroofed often and obviously keep the current windows. Just be careful. We used sheets of plywood to protect windows when tearing off. If it's new construction, then just shingle away.

are you talking about new construction or a reroof ?

Its an addition to the exsisting. So its actually both, but the weather has not cooperated here lately and I would like to get something done.

Had a contractor walk off without finishing...kept the money however. So I need to finish it myself. Pretty excited about it actually.

Thanks in advance to everyones input throughout this sight. My family appreciates every bit of assistance.

Why did your contractor leave?

rodg2915 03-08-2007 09:17 AM

That is a good question I believe he under bid the project, but he signed the contract so that really is no fault of my own. He received 2 draws ($13,333.00 each) and all I have is a shell, the framing is not finished, no shingles or felt, no windows, no plumbing, half the electrical. He left behind some tools, ladder. I have 2 mechanical leins on my house because he did not pay for services already preformed with items he subbed out. and I have a backyard of debris, because he did not pay for the trash dumpster and the company said they wanted their container only and dumped the trash.

So with help from my family we are finishing it.

wow,sry to hear that.

Wow...the crappy part is you will most likely have to pay the liens. I would report the Sonofa..to every reporting agency around, if he truly did walk off half finished. I am not saying he did not screw you, just that only you and him know the intricacies of what transpired.

I respect what you are saying Aaron and I am by no means downing contractors at all. I just got a bad apple. I would definately sub it all out if I had the money left.

I know some sour grapes turn into sweet wine.
