Wind proofing the shingles?

I'm having my roof done next month by a licensed contractor. I live along the river and it gets a bit windy at times.

Any hints or tips that I should keep in mind?

Make sure your weathers warm during application and 2 or 3 days after,so they seal properly

A heavier version of of shingles, such as the 50 year architectural shingles are more rigid and weigh more than the mid weight range 30 year architectural shingles. The minor additional cost is well worth it, especially if you calculate the ROI for the entire duration of each shingle warrranty as divided by the amount of monthly costs related to the initial purchase price.

Also, make sure their is not extreme winds during the application process, which could contaminate the self sealing strips by encumbering them with dust particles, prior to the sealant taking affect.

Thanks for the replies. What's your ideas on manually sealing the shingles? Maybe just the shingles on the edge?

We don't have tornadoes or hurricanes so maybe I'm being a little paranoid?

If you do decide it is worth your time and effort as a preventative measure, then you can buy the tubes of roofing cement to be used in a caulking gun. You should only put about 6 very small dollups, about nickel sized, under the tab that needs to be cemented down in place.

Do not use too much, nor have its placement too close to the bottom edge of the shingle, because it will squeeze out and be a mess on the shingles and a slipping safety hazard.

If you use too much, the solvents contained within the roofing cement will flash out directly into the underside of the composition asphalt bottom portion of the shingle and begin to disintegrate the asphalts from the underside upwards.
