will this minor damage cause leaking?
I cleared some gutters on a lady's roof. Had to clamber from tier to tier, and may have damaged some shingles.

Anyway there is some minor damage, wherever it came from, which I photographed. I am hoping someone knowledgeable has an opinion as to whether it will cause leaking. You can see my finger or thumb there as a size reference. Many, many thanks for any help.

Going to cause major damage, replace the broken shingles and smach the person in the back of the head that tryed to fix it with roofing tar.

Well, thanks again for your advice.

I am not the one who put caulk on it before! Never been there before. But I mighta ripped something off OF that caulk there accidentally.

Anyway, I did go back up just now and she and I got it amply silicone-caulked for a strictly temporary fix. Since I don't know how to put in a new shingle well, it's dark, and it's gonna rain hard for some days. I was gonna go to Lowe's but she is pretty country and assured me she was confident in the gunk she had on hand. Lacking a putty knife (stuff was pretty stiff anyways), I smashed the stuff down as hard as I could with a loose shingle.

The roof looks OK generally to my totally amateur eye. But whoever shingled it left the shingles hanging over the edge almost 3/4-inch... unsupported. They've been bent down in several places, a few by me probably in clambering from tier to tier, but mostly not by me. So the general effect is a decent looking roof with some crumminess at the edge. Mostly the crumminess is just bent-down shingle - which itself might be questionable - as opposed to the even worse stuff that I show in my pictures.

I wouldn't beat myself too much on this. From what I can see from the brittleness the roof life was over a few years back.
