Why does everyone push GAF?

I am always suspicious when 5 contractors in the area push one companies product. I assume they receive a % of what they sell. I just find it odd that they are all pushing this product. We are looking @ the Timberline 30 year architectural shingles, but the colors aren't great. What would be a step up from that product?

Also, does it make a difference in hand nailing vs nail gun? 4 nails vs 5 nails? 5 year labor warranty vs 10 yr labor warranty? Does anyone even ever claim these warranties? And finally, how long does a roof really last in the midwest? Someone once told me that the roof will last @ 1/2 of the warranty. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

They are pushing that product because that is a good shingle (as afar as asphalt shingles go) made by a multi billion dollar company. They will be solvent in 20 years if your roofing material fails.

Sure, they get a %....they get the profit from the jobs they sell. The suppliers get the % of the product.

I honestly cannot think of any manufacturer that I would recomend over GAF for asphalt shingles.
