Where flat roof meets shingled roof
Both my house and garage roof consist of asphalt shingles on the front side and the back is EDPM over a flat roof. The shingles need to be replaced, but the flat roof is in good shape. On the garage the ridge is covered by a sheet metal cap - one side looke like it is under the EDPM the other cemented onto the first few couple inches of shingle. On the house roof there is also a sheet metal cap, but where it overlaps the shingles it is nailed and the nailheads have been caulked. What is the best way to handle this ridge cap when replacing just the shingled part of the roof? The old sheet metal ridge on the house is brown and will not blend very well with the new shingle color. Also, the house is situated so the roof is very visible from the road. Is there an attractive ridge cap that can be used between a shingled and flat roof? What is the best way to install it? Any help or insight would be appreciated! We have had a few estimates and the opinions seem to be all over the place. One roofer suggested sliding the shingles up under the cap on the house (After removing the nails - then just renailing the cap) - of course that does not address how it looks. Thanks
