Had to go up and fix a leak (deteriorated flashing) and after I took care of that, I decided to take a look at the rest of the roof. There is damage to my shingles at the peak on the east end of my roof, link below. What could cause this? My theories are either animals (I know one squirrel lives in the tree) or high winds slamming the branches into the roof. We have high winds fairly frequently. Anyone know what may be causing this?
I'm no pro roofer but I believe that is primarily wind damage. How old is that roof? Shingles can get brittle and the wind can get under them causing them to lift and break. I've seen that kind of damage at my brother in laws house.
It looks like those trees are touching your house. It looks to me that the trees did the damage by rubbing against your house. I would start by trimming the trees a bit.
Exactly. Look at the branches with no foliage on them. It looks like the wind's been blowing and beating the house with the branches. I bet that's a few years in the making.
Trees. I had a large bardford pear next to my new addition and it did the same thing. The shingles looked exactly like yours in the picture. I cut that sucker down.
Yep, had a guy look at it, told me the same thing. I'll be cutting them down within the next couple weeks. Trunks are too close to the house and chimneys anyway.
I don't know why people let plants or trees grow on their house. There shouldn't be any plants within 10 feet of your house. It just traps moisture and wrecks everything.
The previous owners had the house for 10 years, and they didn't really do anything home maintenance wise. I think they should have cut the trees down a long time ago. As it is, the guy we had do the estimate says they won't be able to fully dig/remove the stump due to proximity to utility connections.
