What adhesive?

I thought I needed a new roof but it turns out the cause of my leaking is this.
What sealant is best to stop water from getting under the roofing material? I believe the drip cap is aluminum. Will polyurethane work or an epoxy like pc-11? Thanks.

Well lets see, the shingle do not have enough over hang, the fascia's all rotted out and needs replacing.
With that poor a roofing job I'd also be looking to see if they even installed a starter strip under the first row of shingles.
No caulking is going to "fix" what's wrong with that roof.

It's a rolled roof with an integrated gutter system. If I can find something to seal between the drip cap(integrated gutter system) the leaks into soffits will stop. This one area has wood damage because the lip is no longer bonded to drip cap. The fascia is fine (paint was stripped) as I am the middle of painting.

More pics...can you recommend a sealant? Don't know what was on there before but the rest of the house is fine (for now). I just need something that will give me a little more time before everything is replaced. I am not looking for something permanent and perfect.

Not going to like it, but that's ok.
That whole roof and gutter system was a very bad idea to begin with.
Someone was trying to get out of a new roof as cheap as possible.
That type roll roofing is the cheapest shortest lasting roofing you can buy.
That guttering is going to leak and fail 100% of the time.
Over the years we have seen dozen of that style gutters on this site and any DIY site.
All just caused more damage then good.

PC-11, epoxy or something else?

shazapple 09-23-2013 11:16 AM

Yeah, that gutter system is just a poor design. I can't tell whether that is rolled roofing or Modified Bitumen.

Sealant really depends on what you have access to locally. You want to look for a high grade asphalt based sealant that is 'rubberized', 'rubber polymer modified', or 'SBS compatible'. Just don't use plastic roofing cement.

Will red devil roof sealant work? Or can you recommend a specific item? Thanks again.

I think so, although it's hard to find info on it from the internet. Henry/Bakor has an excellent website http://henry.com/roofing/roofrepair

Thats quite a situation you got there.

Sure you can caulk it, keep it real handy because you will need that caulking a lot. Caulking on this is a temp bandaide at best.

I agree with Joe. The solution is to do a new roof and eliminate the gutter detail. Ditch the rolled roofing entirely and put a better roof system on.
