Waterfalls

My house is a tri-level. The front and back gutters on the main level are 46 feet to the downspout. When we have a downpour the water overflows the gutters like a waterfalls. Should I increase the size of my downspouts or add a downspout in the middle of the gutter?

What size are the gutters/downspouts and how much roof are they serving?

46' is a long way to go to get to a downspout. W/O anymore info, I'd guess adding a spout would be the best option.

Are the downspouts plugged? Do they have any fall to them. 1" per 20' is good. 40' is about max run.

See attachment - this is a hip roof and the gutters are 5" and the two downspouts are 2" X 3"

You've got about 15-16 squares of roof going through two 2x3 downspouts after the water travels 40+ft in the gutter.

Your net downspout cross section is 9.6 sq in. In my area the minimum downspout cross section needed for that roof area would be 10 sq in.

See the chart linked below to determine size necessary in your area, but unless you're in an awfully dry area, your spouts are undersized and they are definitely too far apart.

A picture would be helpful as this could be a few things,5" gutter should do the trick if everything else is up to par.Thats a long run for a decent slope,I probably would have 2 pieced it,having a slope running either way from the middle to the downspouts.Just my 2-cents
