water ruining my facia
So who ever put my roof on didnt leave enough over hang on the shingles. The water just curls around and runs down the facia.I just put new facia boards on the back of my house and I want to divert the water away.I bought some galvinized metal flashing that comes in a roll. It is 8" wide. I have done a small section of my roof by shoving the flashing up under the first course of shingles and using the black roofing cement that comes in a caulking tube to tack it down. Two questions. Is this a bad thing to do? seems like it will work but Im worried about the adhesive sticking to the flashing. Is there a better adhesive than what I have used? Thanks in advance.:)

I'm no a roofer---but I believe you are reinventing the wheel---

There is a metal drip edge available that is designed to do exactly what you want----

A roofer will be along to explain more-----

You maybe able to get away with screwing the back of the gutter to the facia, thus sealing the gap. You maybe able to lift the drip edge(if there) away from the gutter a little so the water goes to the gutter, instead of behind. You maybe able to install a leaf relief type gutter screen that acts as a drip edge, not my favorite. I will let a roofer explain the proper way.

Soulds as ugly as a bucket of boogers to me.
Got a picture?
Galvinized is just going to rust out at some point.
Where the drip edge?

What you are doing sounds OK, but roofing, maybe more than any other trade is a sequential operation, wherein one operation must follow another in the proper order. In your case, the drip edge should be properly enveloped with ice dams protection membrane, and the way you are doing it you will not have much defense against ice damming.
