Vinyl siding?

I am wondering would a box of 200 sq ft of vinyl siding cover a 12x20 single car garage?

Vinyl siding?

Sure, if your only doing one side.
It's length X width, plus at least 10% waste.
If one side is 8 X 20 that's 160 sq. ft. for just that one side.

Are you here shopping for siding or are you shopping for a fool to do all your estimating for you? Go to your intended supplier and let them do the math.

Depending on eave height which you haven't mentioned and door and window sizes which you haven't mentioned, you may be needing around 600 square feet of material.

That doesn't come in boxes.

Do the simple math, length x height = Sf. LxH/2 for a basic gable.

To be honest with you, I have a feeling your really bad at estimating if you can't figure out how much siding you need.

Siding estimates arent much different than any other square footage method. Here are the basics.

If the building is 12x20 thats great, but thats just the FOOT PRINT. You need the HEIGHT of the outside walls and length as well. Meaning you need the exterior dimensions of the building, for all the walls. Example. using a round number ---

12 foot wide walls x 10 foot high walls would be 120 square feet. assuming each side is equal then its 120x4 giving you 480 square feet. add 10% for over run and thats an addition 96 square feet.
A total of 576 square feet. Which will translate to 600 Square feet or 6 boxes of siding. Each box has 2 SQUARE of siding.
A SQUARE is 100 square feet.

Now you must measure all doorways and windows to figure out your Linear footage of J Channel. Also you may need starter strip. Outside corner posts and if there are inside corners, inside corners.

......and that doesn't include gable ends depending on the style of roof and the slope.
