venting question any pros?

didnt get a chance to talk to my roofers that were hired to shingle our new construction home. anyway, i noticed they used these large vents like 8 or 10 or them parallel along the rear of the house roof towards the ridge. however, they used a hidden ridge plastic vent thats covered by shingles on the attached garage ridge. what's the difference, and why not use the hidding type altogether instead of those bulky, ugly looking aluminim vents?

What was in the contract? Sometimes there is not enough ridge to properly vent the attic (usually on hip roofs).

My question would be "why didnt they usethe same vents on the garage?"

my general hired them so i havent seen their contract. i was just curious if there is a difference or advantage in using one vent syle over the other? is there a cost difference?

It is probably not in the roofers contract. The General or framer or lumber yard put it in the building or bid. The vents are a little cheaper than the vented ridge. Is there a vault in the garage for another room? Vented ridge is a tad better at breathing and lesser chance of a leak. Other than that they both work.
