Question

Utilizing heat from Black roof??

Hey all,

I just had roofers in for a new flat roof.

It is Black, thick rolled out. Great stuff!!

Anyway, While redoing the ceiling inside, I noticed the Tremendous amout of HEAT that came from it on a cool sunny day.

My plan was... to put pink insulation in the drop ceiling(about 8inches under the wood that makes the roof.

My Question:

Can I somehow direct that heat back into my living spaces to help save on Cold sunny days in the deep winter?

Thanks!

Utilizing heat from Black roof??

In the winter the angle of the sun is much lower
You probably will not see as much heat on the roof during that time

You would need something above the insulation & against the plywood to soak up heat
Either Alum or copper
Then a means of transferring that to the house

The problem is you would need this for each rafter bay

Much better of building a system outside that can be bigger
Do a search on the web for solar heating

I plan on building one like this
In the last pic that is 84.6 degree air coming out on a winter day
(not my setup)

Utilizing heat from Black roof??

hmmmm...

Food for thought.

I can build access to 3 channels easily. Would simple vent on one side and a small fan on the other do the job on a sunny day?

Thanks
