Using Manufacturer's Installation Instructions

Hi,
Is it okay not to use the Manufacturer's Installation Instructions for Certainteed Cedar Impressions S7 vinyl shingle? If not should the contractor have to rehang it? (eg face nailing and not using the center hole nail at all)
Thank you.
Long Island, NY

No it's not OK. That center hole is important, nailing there pins the panel so it will expand and contract equally in both directions. Setting the panel to the temperature gauge is also important.

I can't even imagine anyone trying to face nail that stuff, you'd have to pre-drill for every nail. Trying to nail directly through would break the panel every time.

Not if you are using a nail gun.

The installer face nailed the last row of shingles at the top and the whole top row now has a wave to it. The installer said they did not have to use the manufacturer's directions and use the center nail technique. What to do now?

Well, typically an installer can do what they want. If they don't use the manufacturer's installation method, it will usually void the warranty provided by the manufacturer. If you (I assume the homeowner) is not satisfied with the job, talk to the installer.

Using Manufacturer's Installation Instructions

Hi, I know it was incorrectly installed. The installer does not want to redo it. I read the installation manual and watched the videos. The question is what to do now. Thank you, Long Island, NY
