I recently had new siding put on my house. They covered the 2 existing gable vents I had with the new siding. I asked the contractor about this and he said the gable vents were unnecessary because I already have 6 turtle vents on the roof. My attic area is approx 600 sq ft. The house has no eaves, so of course there are no eave vents.
Is the contractor just trying to save a few bucks? Is this something that could come back to bite me in a few years if I don't have him put the gable vents back? Would the gables be providing any much needed intake for the turtles? Or are they truly unnecessary with my existing roof? I hate having the feeling that I am ending up with less of a house than I started with.
Gable vents do perform as intake vents, not as well as intakes placed in the eaves but they are intake just the same and they work together with the turtle vents, neither replaces the other unless you had some other type of intake installed.
