Trusses cut 1/2 inch when installing ridge vent install - a concern?
Just had ridge vents installed and our contractor cut thru the top of our roof trusses about 1/2 inch down on one side and 1/4 inch on the other side when installing. Will this affect the intergrity of the roof?

No, as it is above the steel truss plate and close to the ends of the top chords. Sleep well......

It won't affect the integrity of your roof but its not good for your trusses, you are able to cut 1/8" - 1/4" ,so its 1/2 right, your contractor should have set his saw prior to cutting, just for the sake of knowing how far back off the ridgeline to he cut to allow for ventilation? But no your roof system should not be affected , but integrity? rest easy knowing that you are just missing 3/4" of your roof support,. More times than not you will be o.k it is just a irresponsible rookie mistake.

Thanks
Thanks for both replies.
To answer the question about how wide is the cut, in most places, the total width is 2.5 to 3 inches. One section of the roof, it is 4 inches. |
Well you could say he has given you more than you need.? haha, What type of ridge vent did you have installed ?Manufacture ? Style ? And with what was it fastened?
