Transition Sloped Metal to Flat Epdm

What is the best method to make a transition from a 6/12 metal roof to a 2/12 EPDM roof section?

Does the metal roof overlap the EPDM or does it just butt? Is this a reroof or existing?

This is a re-roof of an existing shingle and epdm roof. The metal will overlap the epdm and will cover the shingles. 1x4 strips will be attached to the existing shingle roof first.

The shingle part of the roof is on the upper elevation and currently makes a transition to epdm at the lower elevation as the roof slope flattens over a screen porch on the rear side of the home.

Neither the epdm nor the shingles are leaking, and the epdm section is less than 7 years old. However, the shingle section is much older, has cosmetic issues, and will soon need replacement.

Me, I'd add a 4-5' piece of .060 reinforeced EPDm at the transition and run it about 3' up the shingled area after removing the shingles, and after folding all the metal ends so there are no sharp edges, I'd start the panels at least 1' up from the break.

I would never install the 1 X 4's over an existing shingled roof. No way to know where your attaching them.
But ha that's just me.
Might want to check out the manufacturer of the roofing to see what they suggest.

I plan on attaching the 1x4 strips to the rafters which are consistently 16" oc.

Thanks.

I don't understand starting the panels 1' UP from the break. It seems like the panels should overlap the break and start 1' DOWN from the brake. What am I missing?

When the roof gets damaged or worn at teh break, how do you propose to repair it later? You'll have a cleaner roof and a repairable roof if you start the metal 1' above the break/transition.
Pix of EPDM and slate. No metal ones to show, but this is how you want to do it.

Thanks. Nothing quite like a few photos to help clarify.
