Is there a way to prevent moss on shingles?

I live in Portland, Oregon where moss is the name of our game. I have used zinc strips, but they don't work when we have misty rain, fog or some condition where the water doesn't run down the roof. Is there something I can treat the shingles with to prevent the moss? ... or some other route?

Thanks in advance

Cut back trees if you have shading.

Other than that, you are stuck cleaning them.

Make sure all you venting is right as well.

attach zinc strips to the top of the ridge. Rain will allow the zinc to leach off and coat the roof preventing moss or mildew growth.

I had a house that had major moss.I am not sure about the specs for installation anymore since I have not used them in years but,,I installed them on the ridge and they worked only so far down the roof plane then moss was in force.

It was about a 30' rake line so I installed them on the ridge and in the middle about 15' off the ridge. That cleared it up.Also cutting your limbs back as Windows said helps alot.

How to prevent moss in Portland?

MOVE

Zinc strips are only effective down a certain distance. Can't remember what it is. 10 feet or 15 or something.

You have to install them in the field also in a place like Portland.

Or you can go buy a keg of 8d hot-dipped and just throw them up all over your roof.

He already said that he has used zinc previously. Wet and Forget is temporary and must be re treated.

Please keep in mind that zinc is a heavy metal and does accumulate and create environmental issues.
