Tar paper and rainstorm

We have to tear off old asphalt shingles and re-roof. Possible isolated storms forcast for whole next week. Is black tar paper (underlayment) adequate protection during rainstorm?
Oops. Followed some old threads and found my answer. I will be more careful with future questions.

I would NEVER rely solely on felt to keep the interior dry during thunderstorms,,,severe or not.

Tarps, tarps, tarps.Never tear off more than you can put back before the storms hit.As a matter of fact once you have an area that can be nailed get someone thumping putting them back while more is being tore off.
