steel roof over 3 roofs.

I want to put a steel roof on my sunporch, but it already has three roofs on it. Menard's said I do not have to strip them, just put the steel roof over all three.

What do you all think?

Sand,

I would say that if it were my sunroom, I would prefer to strip the old before putting on the new, especially if there were 3 layers. It may not be necessary to, but none-the-less, the little bit of extra time and effort may save you alot of trouble down the road.

It would behoove you to check with your local building inspector. They would know more than your local lumber slinger.

Fasteners will not hold as well through a 3 layer roof, which is actually 6 layers thick, due to the overlap.

They will "Toggle" back and forth until they come loose, due to expansion and contraction.

Get your Proper advice from a metal roofing contractor who does that on a regular basis the Right Way, not a store clerk, if you want the job to last. Plus, the guage of the metal rib panels that Menard's sells is too thin and will telegraph the unevenness of the underlying roofing materials through the metal.
