Question

Starter course

I am going to shingle the roof of my new garage with solid shingles, meaning there are no slots.
Do i need to install the first row with a starter course as is required with the 3 tab shingles anyways?

Yes. Buy 3 tab 25 year shingles. Cut the tabs off. Set your overhang, and nail as clost to the bottom as you can. Then, the sealer strip will be where it belongs.

Take a look at the installation instructions. I know Certainteed has a full section on installing Landmarks. This will give you some general knowledge.

Thanks for the help guys.
Just a followup question....why cut the 3 tabs off instead of using the complete shingle?

The tar strip is located in the middle of the shingle
You need to cut the tabs off to have the tar strip at the edge of the roof
