stain on my bricks, I think its from the roof`s flashing

HI Guys,

Attached is a kinda crappy picture I took last night while it was dark out, so its not the best, but I think it will get the point across. If you look up the bricks are kinda stained black, and Im guessing this is from the roofs flashing. What do you guys think?

I have a guy coming to install a rain gutter from my front balcony, and he can also install flasing for the roof. If I got new flashing (which would look nice and sharp IMO) would this help prevent future balck marks from appearing? when they install, should they remove the old, or install on top of it? I have a flat tar and gravel roof. Is the flashing attached by the roof at all, meaning when he installs, does he have to "re-tar" where the aluminum would meet the roof??

Any help / info is appreciated!!

Thanks

James
