soffit venting

Hello,

I want to add some soffit intake vents. I noticed the round plastic and the grille vents. If I used these how can I make sure when I cut into the existing aluminum soffit that I won't hit a rafter?

Locate where the rafter ends are and then do not cut hole in the soffits at that location

Got a picture?
Why not remove the soffets that are there now and replace with vented soffits.
Sure it's not soild plywood behind those soffits?

its possible there is plywood there. Not sure yet. Can I just cut some of it out then add the vented soffit?

Well the vented soffit cover will do no good unless a hole is cut so yes you will need to make some cuts.

Are you adding "more" vents or does your current soffit have no venting at all?

Adding more. The grill type that was shown in your picture. How big of a cut needs to be made if there is plywood. Then you screw the grill into the existing non vented soffit?

soffit venting

The only passive venting that really does much of anything is continuous vented soffit in concert with high flow continuous ridge venting. What you are doing is really not worth it, in my experience

I recommend and have white aluminum continuous eaves ventilation, and good continuous ridge ventilation, and it really works well. Plastic soffit builds up a static charge from the wind and attracts atmospheric dirt fast
