Single story 1960 2300 sqft ranch. Originally had only 3 gable vents. I had continuous ridge vents installed, still no soffit vents. I had new insulation BLOWN in. I need soffit vents which I can do myself for cheap, except, because of my disability, I can't do the attic work to install the chutes (I have MS). I figure I'll need to install a total of 5 sqft area of effective soffit vent.
===>> My question -- Is it possible to install chutes from beneth, through the hole cut for the vent? Are such chutes, or vents with chutes available? Or does someone have experience, hints to make chutes to be installed from below?
With the insulation already in it will be very tough. Homes of that age only have 3" or so between the top plate and the roof sheathing/boards. While pushing the chutes in that way, they usually fill up with the insulation and don't breathe. It's best to do from inside the attic. Your insulators should have done it for you. Would have been simple for them at the time.
It will still vent with the ridge vent, just not as much as it's designed for.
