snow melting patterns

simple gable roof recently reshingled 5 years ago. This year we are noticing weird melting patterns on the roof from snow. we can identify the outline for the roof trusses. This has never happened before. Is this a precursor to something?

Where are you located ?
What type of shingles...color ?
How much snow ?
Is the roof properly ventilated ?
Does the sun hit it ?

Is the snow not melting as fast where the rafters are ?
That would indicate they are staying colder then the sheathing

central alberta canada
asphalt shingles dark colour, brown
not to much snow mild winter
roof is ventilated.
south west facing roof
the snow melts where the rafters are so that there is a lack of snow at the locations where the rafters are.

The rafters are bridging the heat from the house (attic) to the roof and melting the snow.
You need more insulation and ventilation would be my guess.
