small eaves

I see a lot of houses on architectural sites that have no eves.

For example:

Is this a bad design choice that is just based on the style (which I like) ?

Or does it really matter? Excluding of course a house where one would need certain roof for snow load or similar.

What are the disadvantages of a small or no eve vs a large eve? The benefits?

With no eves there's no place to mount a gutter, there is no shading from the sun, water will run right down the side of the house shortning the life of the siding, staining, more likly the widows will leak, the widows will stay dirty from the trash running off of the roof, no place for for soffit vents.

Reasons not to have an eve, hmm, nope got nothing.

Thanks, some of these houses do have gutter systems or a flat roof, do you think these kind of designs significantly reduce the life span of the windows / siding and so on or is it just going to affect it slightly... depending on the weather in the area of course.

How do you think water running down the walls and landing on those horrizontal strips of wood on the house you posted a picture of is going to be a good thing?
Running water made the grand canyon how long do think paint or stain will hold you to the same forces.
Even cheap Lenord sheds have an over hang.

That's funny and a good point about the Grand Canyon.

I don't think I ever stated it would be a good thing.

I have just seen a lot of theses houses and although I like the look it seems like a bad design choice so I was curious if architects are choosing to make a really bad design just for the look of a house or if it is just slightly worse and maybe they do other things to compensate.
