shingles

What is the sq. foot coverage of a bundle (3) of shingles?

 housegsx 03-08-2012 10:38 AM

Depends what kind of shingle. For example, a bundle of dimensional shingles will cover less that most bundles of standard 3 tab shingles.

A square is a square.If there is 3 bundles per square then there is 3 bundles to a square.1/3 square =.33.,2/3 square=.66.,3/3 = 1 square.

Shingles

Please excuse my ignorence, but what are the deminsions of a square?

 boner 03-08-2012 10:58 AM

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what is a square? 20ft. x 30ft. Would require how many squares?

 Roofmaster417 03-08-2012 11:03 AM

100 square feet.10'x10'.,1/3 = 33 square feet.,2/3= 66 square feet.,That is the less confusing route.But with some shingles they have a square footage 0f 96 sq.ft and 99sq. ft...,Easiest way is with 10'x10'.

Some manufactures have 4 and 5 bundles per square. Those heavy weight shingles have a larger exposure area.Bigger shingle, more bundles but same coverage per square.

Multiply the area of 20' by 30' that would be 6 sq.Not including rise or ridge cap and starters.

Post your actual ridge length and rake height (sides) and pitch and I will give you a supply list. Also if the roof line is a hip style or gable style.
