I live in a small town and they have just passed an ordinance that all work has to be inspected. I have built 2 houses( with hired carpenters) and roofed a few more. these houses are basic 4/12 pitch. I have had no problems with the roofs that I have put on. my question is If I want to reroof one of these houses myself, what kind of problem will I run into on inspection? What would the inspectors look for in particular? I would do a tear off, put on ice guard, put down felt, start shingling. what should I pay particular attention to?

Have to love "Job Creation" huh?

Make sure you understand your cities inspection process. It might as easy as my area, where they check to see if the shingles are nailed down and vent holes cut out. Or it could be like Florida, where they inspect the decking first, then inspect the underlay install, then inspect the shingle install, then probably a final inspection aswell.

Around here, if you opt for an inspection, they look at nail placement, venting and overhang. That's about it.
