roofing shingles

What is the top rated shingle between Owens Corning, CertainTeed landmark, Gaf Timberline, or IKO Cambridge?

roofing shingles

Whichever one is installed by the best roofer at the end of the day.

There are a ton of threads on this but the two most popular from that list are probably the Landmark and the GAF.

roofing shingles

To get the answer you're looking for, rephrase the question to something like this:

I would like to ask the professional roofers out there (not salespersons) which shingle would/did you put on your home and why?

And to answer my own question for you, I put Certainteed Landmark, Georgetown Grey on my own house. I chose it over GAF, PABCO and IKO because of the consistency in the orientation of the two pieces of matting. Other brands have what I call the "dragon tooth", where the top part of the laminate shingle isn't lined up properly with the bottom part, resulting in the tabs overhanging looking like teeth, just looks ugly.
-I've noticed GAF and PABCO lose a lot of granules, I don't have this issue with Certainteed.
-Certainteed has a 1.5" nailing strip, the others have a chalk line you have to nail on. Missing that chalk line could possibly void the manufacturer warranty.
-As far as weight of the shingles go (I haven't weighed each brand but...) I find Certainteed and Pabco to be thicker than GAF and IKO.

I have Owens Corning Durations, in onyx black, it turned out great, but I would say that Certainteed landmark s a shingle that is just as reliable.
