joecaption Member   Join Date: Nov 2011 Location: Hartfield VA Posts: 18,284	roofing shingles A square is 10 ft. X 10 Ft. Some take 3 some take 4 bundles. Figure on loosing about 10% when ordering. Better to have to many then being short a bundle. You also will need extras for starter shingles and caps.

Actually you can get starter's and caps from some companies, so that you do not use the regular shingles for that part.
