Roofing questions

I just had my Roof and my daughters roof replaced due to hail damage. The contractor I hired used Certain teed shingles. The roof had 30 year shingles on it. he was to replace those with certain teed 30 year shingles, the name was Landmark. Now that he has finished I found some shingle bundle packages and they did not designate anywhere what quantity year they were. Then at my daughters house which were to have the same shingles I found several bundles of the product. there may be a problem but information is hard to locate.
there were six bundles left over some just said certain teed shingle 7033 driftwood, then there were a couple of bundles of Certain teed Landmark extra tough 25 shingles.
This might mean all the shingles used were 25 year not 30 year as contracted. or it might mean on her roof they mixed the shingles.

1. How can a person tell once they are on the roof if they are 30 or 25 year shingles?

2. If he used 25 year shingles and gives you a 30 year guarantee from certain teed how would you know?

3. If the roof has damage and the roof is alleged 30 year and the insurance can determine they are not the right shingles they could possibly seek a reimbursement of the price difference or could refuse to pay to get it fixed?
4. If they are mixed on the same roof what could this do to an insurance claim. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same shingle,they just upped the warranty to 30yrs,On the other hand it is old stock more than likely.You would not be able to tell the difference by looking or by feel.

John K is right,
the only difference between the 25 an 30 yr shingle is the wording on the wrapper and the price tag,
thus no one is going to beable to dispute you calling them 30's.

Ask the roofer to provide you with a copy of the delivery ticket or the invoice on the shingles from the supplier, so you can keep the proper information on the shingles with your warranty. ( you will also see what they delivered and look up info at manufacturer's web site if needed.)

If you have another claim: The carrier owes you per your policy. This is typically "to repair or replace with like quality and kind".

The carrier will not owe you for what you thought you bought.
Not all adjusters are green right out of college. Some adjusters are seasoned pro's with a long background in construction, plenty of training, and experience.

Quality questions are often sent to independent labs for testing.

This is very routine and SOP with most carriers on carpet. (everybody gets told they bought the very best)

Certainteed LandMark shingles are the Architectural Style of shingle, whereas the XT Line, as in XT-25 and XT 30 shingles are the plain, simple flat 3 tab shingles.

What did you choose?

Was it written down on the very detailed proposal and contract?

It doesn't matter what you put down on your roof, as long as the insurance company paid you for Like Kind and Quality. You could upgrade to a better shingle, but the cost difference should properly come out of your pocket as well as the deductible amount.
