Roofing paper under shingles

Is it imperative that I put roofing paper under shingles that will be covering an unheated lawn shed in my back yard? I hear different opinions and would like your feedback.

Thank you

lot of opinions on this, it use to be mandatory, now in a lot of areas it isn't required, If I didn't put Tar paper down, I would put Ice and Watershield down all valleys and the bottom edge though, especailly in any area that gets snow or ice, just to be safe

Gosh, for the cost, it is a cheap layer of leak insurance should a shingle separate or become damaged until the repair can be made. Things like, fertilizer, lime, seed and stuff stored in cardboard boxes, that I store in my sheds don't mind the cold, but they do suffer when wet.
