Roofing materials dilemma??????

A bunch of our local inspectors went to a seminar probably based on Carl's research. I heard the overview but then got busy arguing other, non-building, subjects.

Moisture barriers could be a tricky thing and would probably need to be monitored by the homeowner and homeowners don't like to monitor things.

Mighty Anvil, I've been enjoying your posts. You sound a little different this week.

Teetorbilt, Carl only tested asphalt shingles; what are you challenging?

Hammerslammer, I haven't even been on a whole week yet. Will probably run out of information soon.

So does he only do asphlat shingle technology research?

Was he able to measure the thermal difference between the top and botoom of the shingle surfaces accurately?

Carl Cash has studdied all kinds of roofing but his specialty has been asphalt based systems. He did not describe his testing methods in the book.

Here is the opening page headline and categories for you to check out.

This in no way is a solicitation to default to that site for your questions, but I would like to build up some topic streams over there.

I thought I was the only screw-ball contractor still awake and online, but not for any longer.

Just glad that you agree with my roofing and ethics philosophies.

GAF underlayment has been installed by myself locally for the past seven years, and if that is the benchmark to which all are measured, then I must be lucky cuz I have had ZERO ice dam leaks in theat amount of time.
In most cases a good roof installation is more important than the substrates used.

IN AN ICE DAM situation,it takes more than workmanship, the specs and material used, usually make up the difference,Indiana doesn`t get quite as much frigid weather,so you can get by with lighter specs, more northern areas need these things-gaf weather watch is a good product as aaron alludes to-this topic is from last year!
