Roofing Felt Installation Question

I am installing roofing felt on my shed today. I just wanted to make sure I install it correctly. I have a fairly steep roof (10 in 12). Do I install the felt with an overhang? How much overhang do I use for the felt? Is 1/2" - 1" alright? Also, when I install my shingles, do I match my shingle overhang with the felt overhang or do I use more overhang for the shingles? How much overlap do I need on my steep roof for the felt rows? Thanks in advance.

Step1 Rip/clean/cut 3inch whole in peak for rollvent/ventilation roof
step2 Install bottom metal (1inch overlap)
Step3 Install ice and water shield on bottom of roof over metal
step4 Installed felt/under layment
step5 install metal up gabals
Step6 snap bottom line for your overhang (1/4in for steep roof)
step7 2 options, make sure your paper goes on straight or snape lines up the whole roof and have fun :D

Roofing Felt Installation Question

1/2"-3/4" is fine till you install your drip edge metal flashing. Assuming you have a fascia, a 1"X2" firring strip should be nailed along the top edge of the fascia to provide a gap between the metal and fascia. This prevents rain/ice from flowing off the roof & onto the wood fascia. Felt should not extend beyond the firring strip since it will prevent flush mount of metal.

Overhang the felt on the eve by an inch. Do not overhang felt on the gable (sides).
Install the shingles/starters on the edge of felt.
Overlap your felt rows by 2"
