roofing around a dormer
I have a cape cod style house and the roofer has installed a peice of flashing on the outside of the roofing just below the dormer that is about 6 inches wide and in talking with him he says that is the way you do this when you cannot get the shingle underneath the wood.
The old roof did not have this flashing showing like that and my response to the roofer was the other houses in my neighborhood with dormers do not have this flashing showing and we need to find a way to do this correctly and have it look better. Suggestions?
A picture would be most helpful for this. I would hate to assume to know what area we are referring to.
He may be right, because there is hardly any space in that top 1-3 rows where the shingles fit in against the dormer wall just prior to butting up to the soffit overhang of the dormer.
There are ways to do it, soe that require dismantling the soffit wood, usually at an additional expense to allow room to nail in the shingles and other ways to use an adhesive or even a small palm nail gun to fit in that tight space, but there are drawbacks to each of all of those methods.
Like stated above, a photo of the exact detail would be helpful, but I hope that clears it up for you for the time being.
