More info please.
What style roof is it?
Does it have vented soffits?
Any roof, ridge, or gable vents?

Pictures are always helpful given that there will often be terminology gaps between the homeowner and the contractor.

Depends on if the attic exhausts are 3' higher than the intakes or not. Here is a general guide; http://www.airvent.com/homeowner/pro...it-specs.shtml
We can help you figure it, if needed... that's why we are here. Reminds me of a sign I saw a while ago- "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional".LOL.
A location would help us, and welcome to the forums!
