I have 2 estimates for a new roof on my colonial house in Massachusetts. The quotes are very similar in all respects except one is using a Cobra Vent and the other is using a Shingles Vent II. Which is better and why? The estimate using the Shingles Vent II is $1,200 higher.
If it is the Cobra Snow Country version, that is pretty similar to the Shingle Vent II Ridge Vent product from the AirVent Corporation.
But, if it is any other version, in my opinion, especially the rolled out version, they are worthless.
But, equally or more importantly that the difference between the ventilation products that these two contractors are offering, is which one has the longer lasting and higher quality reputation.
You would be much wiser checking on multiple references from each of these companies, than just being concerned about the difference in ventilation materials being offered.
If the lesser costly contractor winds up having the more long term quality and professionalism, then they can be requested to install the better Ridge Vent product instead of the one that they initially offered.
If the higher priced contractor proves the value of his crews training and the references back that up, then they would be the better choice.
Checking out the Contractor is more important the deciding on materials.
See the other topic thread where someone is having major problems with their contractor choice and see if something like that would be worth trying to choose by price alone, along with the aggravation that comes with the territory for an incorrect decision.
