Roof Vent Drip Edge

Hello all,

I am in the final stages of planning my shop build. After working with the city on ;ot set-backs and all, I need to have a fire rated wall on one side of the shop. It also can't have an overhang (eve) or any penetrations on this elevation. I plan on using a continous roof ridge vent and a continous vented drip edge on the opposite side of the building. How should I vent the fire rated wall side of the building? Vents on the roof at the bottom of the slope?

Thanks, Keith

the underside of your rafters (wall to 4' up) may also need to be covered to complete your fire rating. Check with your code people. You may need to vent from gables or power vent.

Try using this. They have a mid-roof and an off peak installation method both for intake and exhaust ventiolation.

It is called. Smart Vent by DCI Products, Inc.

http://www.dciproducts.com/html/midroof.htm

That page is for the mid-roof or slightly higher than the eave edge application method.

Thanks Ed, I finally got my local Roofing Supplier to find it. Any idea what this stuff cost a foot. I'm planning to use the Smart Vent and the SmartRidge II.

Thanks,

it`s about 11$ for 3 ft. pieces

The previous price is close to what I pay, which is about $ 3.00 per foot.

I have read of some people paying much less than my supplier charges though, which may be due to geographical location and shipping costs.

I would still advise a ridge vent that contains and external baffle to promote additional exhaust venting though, such as the Shingle Vent II or Cobra Snow Country.
